Alyssa received her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. She has experience working with young children in a variety of settings, including in-home as a nanny/babysitter, and in schools as an instructional assistant and Behavior Intervention Assistant, implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques with preschool-aged Autistic children. She completed her clinical internship with San Mateo County's Prenatal-to-3 and Partners for Safe & Healthy Children programs, wherein she provided therapy to young children and their families, as well as to pregnant and postpartum women. Alyssa also has experience facilitating support groups through Postpartum Support International for pregnancy loss and parenting support groups, since 2023.
Alyssa's inspiration to become a therapist was shaped by her strong interest in child development and her time interning at a domestic violence shelter, where she witnessed a scarcity of services and great need for therapeutic skills. As Alyssa learned more about the impact trauma can have on young children throughout the lifespan, she knew the most significant work she could do would be supporting young children and their families and caregivers in facilitating secure attachments.
Alyssa's therapeutic approach is warm, gentle, and centered on attunement and careful listening in the client-therapist relationship. Her treatment approach is trauma-informed and guided by person-centered therapy, child-centered play therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. Her areas of interest include play therapy, perinatal psychotherapy, disenfranchised grief, and loss of all kinds.
In her free time, Alyssa loves spending time with her family, reading, hiking, dancing, and learning new languages.
